Tomris Öziş was born in 1935 in Istanbul. She began her piano education at a young age in Izmir with Madame Van der Rover and Selahattin Göktepe and later became a student of Seride Barlas at the Izmir Conservatory. After graduating from Izmir American College, she passed the examination for highly talented young musicians and continued her piano studies in Germany at the Munich State Academy for Music with Prof. Rosl Schmidt. She graduated from the piano department in 1960.
Öziş performed recitals not only in her home country but also in Europe and the United States, gave concerts as a soloist with orchestras, and appeared in radio and television programs. In the 1970s, alongside her concert career, she worked as a piano teacher at the Izmir State Conservatory and later became a piano lecturer at the Faculty of Fine Arts at Ege University. However, due to health issues, she was forced to end her career as a pianist in 1982.
Tomris Öziş performed in cities such as Izmir, Munich, Istanbul, Ankara, Miami, Atlanta, Rochester, and Detroit. She played with renowned orchestras, including the Istanbul City Orchestra, Izmir Symphony Orchestra, Presidential Symphony Orchestra, Istanbul Radio Symphony Orchestra, Istanbul State Symphony Orchestra, and Izmir State Symphony Orchestra. She worked under the baton of distinguished conductors such as Cemal Reşit Rey, Orhan Barlas, Gotthold Ephraim Lessing, Hikmet Şimşek, Ferdi Statzer, Jean Pierre Jacquilat, Jean Périsson, Demirhan Altuğ, Orhan Tanrıkulu, Gürer Aykal, Mircea Basarab, Tadeusz Strugala, and Michel Rochat.
Regarded as a remarkable pianist by many musicians and audiences, Tomris Öziş recorded very few studio performances; most of her recordings were taken live from concert performances. These recordings have now been compiled into an archive edition in compact disc format.
