Tomris Öziş
Tomris Öziş was born in 1935 in İstanbul. She began her piano studies at an early age in lzmir with Mme Van der Rover and Selahattin Göktepe, became a student of Seride Barlas at the lzmir Conservatory. After graduating from the American College in lzmir, she won the examen for high talented voung musicians, and set forth her piano studies in Germany, with Prof. Rosl Schmidt at the Munich State Academy for Music and graduated in 1960 from the piano department.
She gave recitals at her home country as well as in Europe and the United States, par ticipated as soloist in orchestral concerts, appeared in radio and television programs. Tomris Öziş was in the 1970s, beside her concert career, piano teacher at the lzmir State Conservatory, and then piano lecturer at the Fine Arts Faculty of Ege University. She had to give up her pianistic career in 1982 because of health problems.
Tomris Öziş gave concerts in cities like lzmir, Munich, İstanbul, Ankara, Miami, Atlanta, Rochester and Detroit; played with orchestras like the İstanbul City, İzmir Sympho ny, Presidential Symphony, İstanbul Radio Symphony, İstanbul State Symphony and lzmir State Symphony orchestras; under conductors like Cemal Reşit Rey, Orhan Barlas, Got thold Ephraim Lessing, Hikmet Şimşek, Ferdi Statzer, Jean Pierre Jacquilat, Jean Périsson, Demirhan Altuğ, Orhan Tanrıkulu, Gürer Aykal, Mircea Basarab, Tadeusz Strugala and Michel Rochat.
The still available recordings of Tomris Oziş. who was considered as a very special pianist by many musicians and listeners, were made seldom in studios, but often live from concerts; they are prepared herewith in form of compact discs as an archives edition.
