TURKISH MUSIC DEPARTMENT

Department Overview

The Turkish Music Department consists of the following subfields:

  • Turkish Music Main Art Department
  • Voice Training Main Art Department

The department aims to:

  • Provide students with performance knowledge in various Turkish Music styles.
  • Enable students to apply theoretical knowledge in practice.
  • Contribute to the preservation and transmission of Turkish Music to future generations.
  • Equip students with technical and instrumental skills for performing Turkish Music.
  • Train students to organize national and international events related to Turkish Music.
  • Raise awareness of the importance of Turkish Music in cultural heritage.

Students can select elective courses based on their interests and talents, as well as courses from other disciplines. They can specialize in:

  • Solo performance
  • Chamber music and ensemble performance
  • Music theory
  • Instrument and voice education

The Faculty of Music and Performing Arts – Turkish Music Department follows the Turkish Higher Education Qualifications Framework (TYYÇ). The curriculum design and learning outcomes are aligned with the Bologna ECTS Information Package.

The program content is developed in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring compliance with national core curriculum, accreditation standards, and institutional goals. The department has structured monitoring and evaluation systems to track student progress.

Mission

The Turkish Music Department aligns with the institutional mission, vision, goals, and objectives of Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University and the Faculty of Music and Performing Arts.

Vision

The department envisions:

  • Training highly skilled musicians and performing artists who can represent Turkey and its cultural heritage.
  • Conducting applied, project-based, and interdisciplinary scientific and artistic research.
  • Maintaining sustainable collaborations with stakeholders.
  • Offering a holistic education that integrates local and global perspectives through science and art.

Message from the Department Chair

Dear Students,

The Turkish Music Department is a preferred program for students graduating from full-time and part-time conservatories, Fine Arts High Schools, and general high schools.

Our program prepares students for Master’s and Doctorate/Proficiency in Art programs.

As a graduate of our department, you can:

  • Work as a Turkish Music instrumentalist or vocalist in TRT (Turkish Radio and Television Corporation).
  • Become a program producer for TRT.
  • Perform as a vocalist or instrumentalist in the Ministry of Culture’s Classical Turkish Music Choirs.
  • Work as an academic in universities.
  • Obtain a teaching certification to become a music teacher.
  • Work as an instructor in Public Education Centers.
  • Secure employment in the private sector (music houses, foundations, associations, etc.).
  • Become a musician, instructor, or administrator in municipal conservatories.

Training qualified musicians and music educators who can perform Turkish Music at a high level is one of our primary objectives.

You will experience an education process filled with numerous scientific and artistic events, research opportunities, and high-quality academic training.
