TURKISH MUSIC DEPARTMENT

Department Introduction

The Turkish Music Department includes the Turkish Music Main Art and Voice Training Main Art branches. Providing high-quality education at the international level is one of the department's and our main art branches' goals.

Our students can choose courses in line with their field of study from the elective courses group, and in addition, they can select courses from other disciplines based on their interests and abilities. Our students in the main art branches can specialize in solo performance, chamber music, orchestra/group performance, and music education.

The educational qualifications of the main art branch within the state conservatory have been defined based on the Turkish Higher Education Qualifications Framework (TYYÇ). The design of programs within the Faculty of Music and Performing Arts is carried out in alignment with the objectives and learning outcomes of the teaching programs. The Bologna ECTS Information Package aims to maintain high occupancy rates. The learning outcomes and program outcomes are aligned, and the opinions of internal and external stakeholders are considered when determining elective courses. The Faculty of Music and Performing Arts has defined processes for program design and approval. The program's goals and learning outcomes (gains) have been created, their alignment with TYYÇ has been stated, and they have been publicly announced. The institution’s mission and vision are considered when determining program qualifications. The contents of all programs in the department and course information packages are prepared considering national core programs, if available, and criteria (e.g., accreditation criteria, etc.) if applicable. The expression of outcomes clearly indicates the expected cognitive, affective, and cyclical levels. The planning for how to track the achievement of the program outputs has been made, with a detailed description of the methods and processes for addressing shared outcomes within the institution. The structuring of learning outcomes and required teaching processes has department-specific principles and rules. The actions with which competencies can be acquired (competency-course-teaching method matrices) have been determined at the program level. The types of education (formal, blended, distance) through which competencies can be acquired, according to domain differences, are defined. The physical and technological needs of the programs are taken into consideration in the program design.

From the Department Head

Dear students,

The Turkish Music Department is a program primarily chosen by graduates from conservatories, art high schools, and general high schools, especially from the Fine Arts High Schools. The program aims to prepare students for Master's and Doctorate/Professional Qualifications programs.

Graduates of the Turkish Music Department can work as soloists, choir artists, and Turkish folk music specialists in institutions such as TRT (Radio and Television Corporation). They can also become program producers, choir and voice artists in the Ministry of Culture’s polyphonic choirs, and academic professionals in universities. With the condition of obtaining a Pedagogical Formation certificate, they can also become teachers. Graduates can also be employed as trainers in public education centers, or as artists, trainers, and managers in municipal conservatories.

Along with receiving quality education, a department and educational process full of numerous scientific and artistic events, high-quality research, and production await you. You will contribute to the national and world culture while ensuring a career without employment issues and gaining a network.
