Tomris Öziş

Born in 1935 in Istanbul, Tomris Öziş began her piano studies at a young age in Izmir with Madam Van der Rover and Selahattin Göktepe, and later became a student of Seride Barlas at the Izmir Conservatory. After graduating from Izmir American Girls' College, she won the examination for exceptionally talented young musicians and continued her piano education at the Munich State Conservatory in Germany, studying under Prof. Rosl Schmidt. She graduated from the conservatory’s piano department in 1960.

The artist has performed recitals both in Turkey and internationally in Europe and America, participated as a soloist in orchestra concerts, and appeared on radio and television programs. In addition to her concert pianist career, in the 1970s, Tomris Öziş worked as a piano teacher at the Izmir State Conservatory and as a piano lecturer at the Faculty of Fine Arts, Ege University. Due to health issues, she retired from concert pianism in 1982.

Tomris Öziş has performed in cities such as Izmir, Munich, Istanbul, Ankara, Miami, Atlanta, Rochester, and Detroit. The orchestras she performed with include the Istanbul City Orchestra, Izmir Symphony Orchestra, Presidential Symphony Orchestra, Istanbul Radio Symphony, Istanbul State Symphony, and Izmir State Symphony, conducted by renowned conductors such as Cemal Reşit Rey, Orhan Barlas, Gotthold Ephraim Lessing, Hikmet Şimşek, Ferdi Statzer, Jean Pierre Jacquillat, Jean Périsson, Demirhan Altuğ, Orhan Tanrıkulu, Gürer Aykal, Mircea Basarab, Tadeusz Strugala, and Michel Rochat.

Regarded by many musicians and listeners as a highly special pianist, Tomris Öziş's recordings, many of which were made live at concerts and some in the studio, are now being released in a compilation edition as intense play.
